New and Enhanced Korean and Chinese Patent Data Now Available in DWPI
August 14, 2008
The coverage of Asian patent data in Derwent World Patents Index®
(DWPISM) has been significantly improved with new English
content for Korea and China. This new content further strengthens the position
of Thomson Reuters as the leading provider of value-added Asian patent information.
Korean coverage in DWPI
The enhancements to Korea (update 200851) apply to patents and Utility Models published from January 2008 forward, and include:
- New Data
- Coverage of all Korean Utility Models with full DWPI value-add (i.e., DWPI title, abstract, manual coding and deep indexing for records with significant chemistry content)
- Machine translations of all claims for Korean unexamined and examined applications, and Utility Models in the DWPI patent family can be searched and displayed
- Machine translations of the author title and abstract for all Korean patents in the DWPI patent family
- The author title and abstract are first available in DWPI First View, enabling early alerting while the full value-add for the records is being completed by the editorial teams
- Enhanced Data
- Full DWPI value-add for Korean unexamined and examined applications identified as basics in DWPI. This includes DWPI titles and abstracts written to the Thomson Reuters editorial rules. Deep indexing will be applied to records in sections A, B, C, and E that have significant chemistry coverage
Thomson Reuters is the first information provider to offer access to all of the claims for Korean unexamined and examined patent applications and Utility Models outside of the Korean patent office.
All Korean patents identified as basics (Unexamined or Examined patent pplications and Utility Models) will receive the full DWPI value-add that includes a DWPI title, alerting abstract (documentation abstract for records with significant chemistry content), manual coding and deep indexing. The DWPI titles and alerting abstracts are available through all of the DWPI delivery channels including Thomson Innovation, Derwent Innovations Index (DII) and the online hosts (Dialog, STN and Questel). Currently, the documentation abstracts and deep indexing are available for Chemical Patents Index (CPI) subscribers.
The first batch of the 2008 published Korean data was loaded into DWPI First View in Update 200850. The DWPI First View records include machine translations of author titles and abstracts, enabling early alerting while the full value-add is being completed.
Chinese coverage in DWPI
The enhancement to China (update 200852) applies to Chinese Invention patents (Unexamined Applications) and Utility Models published from July 9, 2008. English translations of all claims can be searched and displayed in the DWPI record — at the member level — for Chinese Invention patents and Utility Models in the DWPI patent family.
